At 50 years old, Marty weighed 660 pounds. His life was filled with regret instead of accomplishment. Marty could only dream of playing football with his son or horseback ride with his daughter. Each day he had to cope with type II diabetes and sleep apnea. He had chronic back, hip and knee pain, took antidepressants and was ashamed of his body. Each day he was surviving, not living.
Marty wanted to free himself from the bondage of being fat.
He tried the usual fad diets, fitness guru advice and even gastric bypass surgery. Like most people, the weight he shed came back again. Again and again, Marty's great hope for a better future was shattered.
After failing with at least seven different diets, Marty decided to wage a 'Campaign for Freedom.' He created twelve missions each with physical and spiritual milestones. Each milestone progressively changed his destructive emotional eating habits into healthy lifestyle habits.
Instead of feeding his emotions with food, Marty fed his mind with powerful 'spine-chilling' goals. He created a journal of positive encouragement and filled out a Screenplay worksheet to plan his daily fitness journey. If the girl next door delivered chocolate mint cookies, he used his No Surprises Counter Attack Plan to recognize the trap, take command of his emotions and remember his powerful 'spine-chilling' goal to succeed in his mission. After completing his Campaign for Freedom, he succeeded in changing how his mind thought about food and won his battle for a better life.
Four years and over 360 pounds lighter, Marty now enjoys each day of his life. He has reached his goal to play football with his son and horseback ride with his daughter. His next goal is to take his family to New York City to enjoy the Christmas festivities. Instead of embarrassment and regret, every day is filled with joy. He now shoots hoops without gasping for breath, jogs in the park or sits in a restaurant booth instead of the 'sturdy chair' with his wife, Laurie, of 32 years. |
